ALMA started with a simple question: why is it so hard to calm down exactly when you need it most? When you're stressed or overwhelmed, the usual advice (breathe deeply, quiet your mind, meditate) asks your brain to do the work when it's already overloaded. We wanted something that works with your body instead of against it.

So we built ALMA around the bilateral stimulation used in EMDR: a gentle, alternating left-right rhythm of soft taps and light that moves from one hand to the other. Alternating left-right rhythms have been studied by researchers for over thirty years. ALMA puts that rhythm in your hands so you can use it on your own, anytime, as part of your everyday wellness routine.

A note from the founder

My name is Adam Ksouri. I'm the founder of ALMA.

I came across EMDR tappers while looking for a simpler way to wind down at the end of the day. The left-right rhythm was the first thing I found that I could actually stick with, because it asked nothing of me. I just had to hold it.

Then I went looking for a device to buy, and I was surprised by what I found. Most of the tappers on the market hadn't changed in years: grey plastic boxes with a cable, a dial from another decade, and a price that had nothing to do with what was inside. They were built for a therapist's desk drawer, not for someone's hand at eleven at night.

Three things bothered me. They were awkward to hold: hard shells, sharp edges, the kind of object you notice because it's uncomfortable. They felt cheap, even when they weren't. And none of them looked like something you'd want on your nightstand. If you're reaching for something in a difficult moment, it should feel steady and reassuring in your hand before it does anything else. A cold plastic box does the opposite.

So I decided to build the device I wanted to buy. Soft-touch silicone that's warm to the touch. A shape drawn around the hand rather than around the electronics. Wireless, app-controlled, rechargeable over USB-C. And a design you're not embarrassed to leave out. Getting there took longer than I expected: several rounds of prototypes, a lot of samples that went in the bin, and a factory that agreed to test every single unit before it ships. But that's why ALMA exists: a good-quality, well-made object, at a price that doesn't turn it into a luxury purchase.

What we believe

Feeling grounded shouldn't require training, effort, or perfect conditions. ALMA is designed to be effortless: hold one tapper in each hand, and let the rhythm do the work while you rest, read, or lie in bed. No focus required. That's the point.

Who we are

ALMA is an independent brand. The product is developed and sold by KALMAC AAC LLC, a US company registered in the State of New Mexico, which owns the ALMAWAVE SENSE brand. Our team works from France, and we are a small, hands-on group covering product design, firmware and app development, and customer support.

We chose to launch in the United States first, on purpose. EMDR and bilateral stimulation are far better known there than anywhere else, both among practitioners and among people looking for everyday calming tools, so it was the right place to meet our first customers and learn from them. International availability is the next step.
